Graf & our body as a vast tool for understanding the effect of our emotions - Simple Awareness Isn't Tiring at All

The insight below from Doug McGill coincides w/ comments from Shelly Graf on Wed, Jun 18:

"Thich Nhat Hahn encourages the slow, slow, slow step, step, step of  'steady intentionality' which itself is a kind of right effort...it is wisdom embodied in the body, in stepping, in breathing.

Shelly: "Quoting from Sharon Salzberg's chapter on Faith in 'A Heart as Wide as the World'.. Shelly reminds us the practice requires trust, or as Salzberg describes it: requires faith...not the faith of mindless obeisance to doctrine but faith in our steady personal experience and steady attention to our bodies and thoughts and feelings...through awareness.

Also becoming aware moment by moment of our emotions, our emotional state (taking responsibility for our emotions.

Simple awareness isn't tiring at
all. It's not about exerting yourself,
it's about being steady. The Buddha
said the energy of right effort is "ar-
dent and resolute." Try to bring forth
these qualities while remaining com-
pletely relaxed, steady, and calm.

on Dukkah

We keep suffering because we don't notice we are suffering. We keep running because we don't know we keep running from our suffering.
stop running to feel what we are feeling...the exploration of suffering and the end of suffering.
There is one thing the Not seeing of which keeps you bound is suffering, is dukkha.

Trying to escape, trying to get something -

"The quality of mind is conditioned by experience

~ The benefits of This practice grows with time

Story of Asian grandmother reading obits to their daughter ..."we're in relationship w/ thse people"....even if we don't know them... we are affected by all causes & conditions...by the lives of other people...helps us understand life & death. do I worry about my obit being worthy compared to other people's obits (records)

Being curious of how practice moves... how it progresses. Sharing this... we are all connected. We remain in connection as we learn from each other about this practice moves through all our lives.

Recognizing when the mind is taking a self-centered view...or recognizes its social interconnectedness.

Steve Masters (a speaker at Common Ground?)...overcoming feeling  intimidated by the homeless. extending a hand ' Tell me your story'... it's about interconnectedness.

After election processing: dhukka... the heart not wanting to accept what is

dhukka: that which is hard to face

eg, 'we are so far apart politically'... 'I don't want to be with that'

But whatever that is: it is based on causes and conditions... the election results are 'lawful'...and the heart doesn't always get what it wants.  Remember to ask how are we aligned with and participating with this moment? The heart cares, the heart wants to understand its own participation, am i being skillful with what is happening now?
