Dear Friends,
During our weekly gatherings, we have practiced the art of listening deeply and speaking from the heart, being fully present to ourself and to each other. Your skill with mindful listening and loving speech is what has supported the growth of our group into a deeply caring, nurturing and supportive practice experience.
This week we suggest you use this skill of deep listening and speaking from the heart in conversation with a family member or friend. But a practice to use with anyone. Remember that your listening is more important than your speaking. Any of the mantras can be spoken inwardly.
We are sending the Plum Village Mantras to help guide you. The first mantra, is one to speak to yourself as well as to others.
Six Plum Village Mantras1. I am here for you.
2. I know you are there and it makes me happy.
3. I know you suffer.
4. I suffer, please help.
5. This is a wonderful moment.
6. You are partly right.
You can practice deep listening in order to relieve the suffering in us and the other person. That kind of listening is described as compassionate listening, You listen, only for the purpose of relieving suffering in the other person
